Guide
Using Playroom Layout Studio
From an empty room to a plan you can share, in five steps. Everything happens on your phone or tablet; you do not need an account or an internet connection.
1. Measure the room
- Tap New room, give it a name and choose Blank room or a starting point.
- In Room outline choose Rectangle, L-shape or Wall by wall and type the sizes in centimetres (you can also type metres, for example 4.5 m).
- For wall by wall, start in the top-left corner and go round clockwise: each wall gets its length and the turn at its end. The outline must end where it started.
- Add the ceiling height if you plan slides or climbing frames.
2. Mark doors, windows and fittings
- Open the Room section and add each door, window, radiator and socket.
- Pick the wall by its number, then the distance from the corner where that wall starts and the width.
- Say whether a door opens into the room. Its swing is then kept free of modules.
3. Place modules and zones
- Open the plan editor and tap a module in the panel. It appears in the first free spot.
- Drag it into place. It snaps to the grid and flush to walls and other modules; the position is shown while you drag.
- With a module selected you can turn it by 90°, duplicate it, nudge it, or open Size & name to type exact sizes and positions.
- Add zones for storage, keep-clear areas, a toddler area, a quiet corner or active play.
- Pinch or use the buttons to zoom; drag the background to move around. Undo takes back the last steps.
4. Read the checks
- The status line in the editor shows the number of warnings, the free floor and the storage area.
- Aisles & storage lists every warning with its measurement. Tap one to see the module on the plan.
- Change the minimum aisle with the − and + buttons; the checks update straight away.
- Turn on the walking figure in the editor to see the route from the doors.
5. Compare and export
- In Layouts, copy the current layout or start an empty one, then rearrange it.
- Compare layouts side by side and choose the preferred one.
- Export the plan as a PDF (A4 landscape, drawn to scale), a PNG image or text, and share it or save it to a folder.
- Under More › Your data you can save a backup of everything and restore it later.
What the checks mean
| Check | Flagged when |
|---|---|
| Narrow passage | Gap wider than 2 cm and narrower than your aisle width |
| Overlap | Two solid modules on the same floor |
| Door swing | Door width deep, at least 60 cm; 50 cm in front of outward doors |
| Radiator | Any module within 20 cm |
| Window | Climbable module within 60 cm |
| Headroom | Less than 100 cm above a climbable module |
| Route | No path of the aisle width from a door |
Floor mats can be walked on, so they never narrow an aisle and other modules may stand on them. A socket hidden behind a module is shown as a note, not a warning. The app is a planning aid: it does not replace checking the safety requirements that apply to your space.
